Weaned off of Pediasure

It’s been about two weeks since I began the process of weaning
Sophie off of Pediasure. I’m on a mission to get her healthier and eating more food. I am pleased to say I have been successful.

There were some other milk products that were recommended by other CDC moms but after having the doctor review them she decided they were not a good option for Sophie.  I decided to try the Silk almond milk, the only problem was that it only has 90 calories when the Pediasure has 350 calories. I decided I wanted to keep her on the Almond milk and I added in some Organic whole milk, it’s not loaded with a ton of calories but enough combined with the Almond milk and the added calories from the thick-it. Now at each serving she gets half of each milk and 3 tbsp of thick-it. I will most likely be adding in some powdered milk like Nido in the near future for extra calories. I’m looking into it because right now I want to keep her on as much natural foods as I can. The less chemicals and sugar the better but I prefer no chemicals and if possible no sugar.

She is now at one can of Pediasure every other day when a month ago she was drinking 4-8 cans a day. Her stools no longer give that potent odor and I have not had to give her anything for constipation as she has not been constipated since I started her on the almond milk.

Her appetite is better, she is eating and drinking more and it is only logical now that she is eating and drinking foods easy to digest that do not sit in her stomach too long.  I did try another brand of organic milk for two days but she became a bit lethargic, she began to drool and her lips became bright red right after she would drink the milk. The symptoms immediately stopped once I changed the milk. She must have been having an allergic reaction to it so I will stick to the brands we are currently using.

She is up to two meals a day right now. She has been sick and did not want to eat for three days and lost some weight but she is beginning to feel better and I am really trying to get her to eat more.

I am happy to say we have successfully weaned Sophie off of Pediasure! Now my next mission is to get her up to 3 meals and two snacks a day.
